Not a Stick
Landmark 7 (Books, Songs, Games Weekly)
Today we were very excited to have a visit with Nature Nancy from Think Outside. This winter the students have been talking about their interests in animals such as narwhales, snowy owls, snowshoe hares, and penguins. Nature Nancy taught us a penguin song and dance that we can sing many more times in our class this season. We talked about how beavers, birds, and squirrels use sticks or parts of trees in various ways. Nature Nancy shared a book with us titled, “Not a Stick” by Antoinette Portis. We had a discussion about using our imagination to construct and create things with nature items. Many of us were inspired by the nests Nature Nancy showed us and later created our own nests, animal homes, and fairy houses. Some children did experiments or created art with their nature items. Thank you for a fun, active morning Nature Nancy! We are looking forward to your next visit!
