Snow Volcano!

Landmark 6 (Play in Nature a Full Hour)

For science, we walked through the scientific method for snow volcanoes. First, we identified the purpose of our experiment – to figure out if a snow volcano would erupt the same way as a regular (baking soda & vinegar) volcano.
Then, we created our hypotheses – deciding what we thought the answer to that question was (yes it would erupt the same, or no it would not). After collecting all of our materials (baking soda, vinegar, food colouring, funnel, cup, water bottle), we went outside to prepare the experiment. We took snow and created volcanoes with it. We stuck the bottle with baking soda in it inside the snow volcano (be careful not to get too much snow inside the bottle). Then, we had our bottle of vinegar with food colouring ready to dump in. It was awesome! The snow volcano erupted the exact same way as a regular baking soda & vinegar volcano, but it slid down the sides of the snow in a really cool way. Highly recommend this activity!
