Attracting Birds
Landmark 11 (Celebrate Each Season)
We went on a birdwatching hike with a naturalist (Dave Milstrom) with our class. He brought some different seeds to show us. He also brought his bird recording to play to attract the birds. We saw a mourning dove, many crows, a sparrow, and lots of chickadees at our feeders. We tried feeding the birds from our hands, but they were too shy. Before this hike, we had watched the live birdfeeders at “Cornell University” and were able to identify 5 types of birds (blue jays, cardinals, chickadees, woodpeckers, siskin) and squirrels as they visited the feeder over 2 weeks (3 times per day). We tracked how many birds we saw in 2 min. each time we watched the feeders.
