Living Under Sticks

Landmark 7 (Books, Songs, Games Weekly)

We continued to investigate animal homes in winter this week. We watched Harry Nowell’s video inquiry about beaver lodges and talked and drew about what it might be like to live under sticks and snow in the dark. Outside, the students each created an animal home from snow, ice, or sticks and put their small animal (we used old film canisters filled with warm water as our “animals”) inside. After some play time, we went back to check on our “animals”, to feel if they were still warm. Some were and some were not, and the students shared the various ways they had created their animal homes.
