Treerific

Landmark 12 (Nearby Plants and Animals)

Camp Kawartha Workshop: “Treerific”! Glen and another leader came to our school and led us through a series of games and activities about trees. We learned the difference between coniferous and deciduous trees, and learned some distinctive physical features of the Red Pine, Cedar, Sumac, Beach, Sugar Maple, Spruce, Paper Birch and Ironwood trees found behind our school. We enjoyed the Indigenous tale about Maple Syrup, participated in some of Glen’s songs, and learned to use our senses to observe and describe trees. In the end, we acted out the parts of a tree and learned how each part contributes to the overall function and vitality of all trees. As a teacher, I appreciated their ability to manage the group outside, and how Glen shared his gift of music, as well as his knowledge of some Indigenous words, making our experience all-encompassing.
