Cabbage Patch
Landmark 11 (Celebrate Each Season)
One of our favourite things to grow last year was cabbages! They were so round, cute, tasty, and tricky to harvest. We were so proud of the fruits of our labor! You may remember that the slugs also enjoyed our cabbages. This year we started some marigold seeds inside, to plant alongside our sweet little plants. The marigolds will hopefully act as friends and bug protection to our crop. Growing plants from seed inside has been such a wonderful adventure. The delight of having green in our space even during chilly days has been so rewarding. What pride we felt to plant these tiny green treasures in their warm summer home today. We planted each one with precision and care, taking special note of the spacing of our plants. We filled the empty spaces with seeds, which shouldn’t take too long to sprout. Once each side of our row was thoroughly planted, we made a straight line of colorful cabbage seeds down the middle. “They are so beautiful!” said B. The friends wanted to know what kind of cabbage each seed would grow into. Planting is such a wonderful task for us to enjoy! We love growing our own food and sharing our harvest with our parents and community. This time of the season, planting, is a special time. The air is filled with anticipation and tension. Will all our seeds and seedlings grow? All we can do is provide them with plenty of what they need.
Delicious worm-filled dirt.
Sunshine.
Plenty of water.
Lots of love.
Space to grow.
And songs for good measure.
The same things we need!
