Pumpkin Playground

Landmark 5 (Garden/Care for Animals)

The children noticed that I had put the used pumpkin in the garden on the playground. The children asked why and I explained how the pumpkin would make good compost “food” for the soil for our garden in the spring. One of the children had a dump truck full of leaves and wondered if he could fill the pumpkin up with leaves. I thought this was a great idea since leaves also make good compost. The children quickly took on the task of filling the pumpkin and enjoyed looking though the face of the pumpkin to see how full it was.
