Winter-Inspired Books
Landmark 7 (Books, Songs, Games Weekly)
The Kawartha Heights Kinders have been reading up a storm. Their winter-friendly reads include. The Littlest Reindeer, exploring feelings, senses, and how to believe. The Berenstein Bears Christmas Tree, discovering all kinds of animals that live in a tree and that trees are important habitats for some animals and how we can protect and care for them. The Last Christmas Tree allowed the children to talk about how the tree relates to us and how trees have feelings too and need care and love too. The book, Who is Sleeping, provides clues to each animal. The children carefully listen to all the clues before guessing the animal. Another great read, Bear Can’t Sleep, allows the children to consider how the animals acted toward the bear and how the bear reacted. This paired well with the book, Honey Paw and Lightfoot, about a bear that prepares for hibernation but meets with a grizzly first, she goes into hibernation and has a cub while hibernating. When winter is over she teaches her cub how to hunt and play and become big enough to be on his own. To take the bear theme to the next level, the children sang the Bear went over the Mountain and other weather songs.
