Across Time and Space
Landmark 8 (Nature Art Weekly)
Winter is always asking me; how does this beautiful season present learning opportunities? I am always looking for ways to carry out simple activities across time, space, and seasons. I love repeating activities and changing them only slightly-according to the children’s interests or Mother Earth! The ice of this week presents challenges and opportunities. When the children found beautiful, shimmering ice beneath the bubble tree, and I happened to have chalk in my backpack to pass some time on the concrete, the children wasted no time in experimenting and creating. It was challenging to spread color on the grooves-I wasn’t at all surprised when the friends persisted and succeeded. “Let’s leave some chalk here, for other children. Or the ice will melt and make color water!” suggested Brookey. What a wonderful idea! I can’t wait to check on this art installation tomorrow. How will this snow change the way it looks?
