Helping the Earth

Landmark 26 (Volunteer in Three Ways)

After a windy week, a lot of garbage has been noticed blowing around town, so the girls decided to use their break to clean it up!! Safety first of course, as they found these extended arms at the Friendly Dollar Store in Lakefield, to use. Don’t want to actually touch any of the garbage!

True Wilderness

Landmark #27 (Wilderness Trip)

Quetico is a true wilderness park – campsites and portages are not marked, the lakes are big, and the portages can be rough.
I’d wanted to paddle Quetico for years, but always figured it was too far to drive. But we all decided it WAS worth the drive … and the drive itself was fantastically scenic for the most part..

Down the rapids

Landmark #27 (Wilderness Trip)

Our family spent a glorious 8 days canoeing through Quetico Provincial Park. Such a great way to recharge the batteries, and we went DAYS without thinking or talking about COVID. Just us, together, with our two canoes, tents, food great sense of adventure.

Canoe in the Wild

Landmark #27 (Wilderness Trip)

In Quetico Provincial Park we went almost 4 days without seeing a soul. Breath taking scenery, gorgeous campsites, spectacular sunsets and the loons completely outdid themselves with their evening symphony. The days are hard work, with the paddling, the wind, and especially the portaging. But all that builds ones sense of confidence – internally, and in a sense of wilderness skills.
These are life changing experiences 🙂

Guidelines

– Find the Landmark (from the dropdown menu) that best fits your activity

– Make sure you’ve completed the Landmark before submitting, or we may need to adjust your points (check the Landmarks page for complete directions)

– All entries must have a photo or video to validate your report; be sure to tell us if it’s okay to share your images with others (without permission, we won’t share them)

– Points are accumulated each season; the Leaderboard resets to zero at the start of each season

– Every entry submitted each month gives you a chance to win our monthly draw prize (winner chooses from a selection of prizes); note that prizes are available for Ontario residents only

– Organizers reserve the right to adjust points awarded or to veto a submission, to fairly reflect the effort made by participants

Have fun and keep active! Thanks for telling us what you’re doing!
